Barclay Butera & Lexington New Furniture Collections Debut

Time really flies when you’re having fun.  I can’t believe its been nearly two months from what was considered one of the biggest furniture collections debut in our industry, and I have to pinch myself because those collections are mine!  It’s pretty incredible to think that just 10 months ago I was sitting down with the president of Lexington Home Brands, discussing the opportunity to bring a breath of fresh air with two fresh and distinction lifestyle collections. Last February, we collaborated on The Modernism Showhouse together, where I wanted to show my take on mid-century modern design.  I didn’t have to look far, as Lexington had just introduced a mid-century modern collection, that was sophisticated and ideal for my design concept.  Needless to say, the efficiency and success of putting that Showhouse together sealed the deal.

As a partnership, we’ve been in sync since the beginning.  Both Lexington and I felt there was a need for an updated and new take on traditional design.  We are taking traditional elements and rejuvenating them with contemporary finishes and transitional materials.  Why we picked each other?  As a designer, I have been purchasing Lexington product for years, both for my interior projects and showrooms, so they already fit perfectly with my design aesthetic and brand. They are simply the best at what they do and give me the opportunity to expand my style into multi-chain stores and the homes of thousands.  Why did Lexington pick me?  Aside from also meeting their expectations on design and brand awareness, I think they acknowledge my expertise in knowing what it takes to create a sellable line.  I know first-hand what designers and what their client’s needs are and I am able to relate to all sides, retail, designer and consumer.

Now let’s get to the fun part, the collections!  Last fall at High Point Market, we introduced not just one collection, but two!  Combined, the two collections offer over 200 products.  We decided to create two independent and distinctive collections, Newport and Brentwood.

I live in Newport Beach, California, and used my personal lifestyle as an anchor to the Newport Collection. Inspired by the coast, it is relaxed yet sophisticated and evokes a fresh approach to casual traditional living. The two primary wood tones I picked – Sandstone, a lighter wood hue and Sailcloth, featuring a custom whitewash — are complimented with five accent finishes.  I’m loving our signature raffia products that come in natural, marine blue and sea glass green.

I am a big fan of pattern and you’ll often see me layer textiles and color in my design projects. For this collection, we had a lot of fun selecting fabrics in my signature Barclay blue, white, ivory, taupe and gray.  You’ll see bold geometrics, stripes, chinoiserie and of course animal print throughout my textiles.

Check back with us as we reveal details and photography from our Brentwood Collection!

I want to thank everyone who was involved in making this dream come true. Without you and all of your hard work, we wouldn’t be celebrating this major milestone.  It was truly a collaborative team effort from both the Barclay Butera and Lexington Home Brands teams. We hope you love the collections as much as we loved creating them!
